About Aunty
Living in the Caribbean as a little girl my father used to make a Sorrel drink at Christmas. My Aunty Iris always helped him. They bottled it and would save some to drink at Easter. I helped my dad a lot (mostly drinking it!). When I came to live in England my father continued to make Sorrel for us, using the dried version that family and friends brought back from their holidays in the Caribbean. When Daddy died I continued where he left off as my love for the taste of Sorrel grew and grew. I think it reminded me of my roots when I was young and carefree… drinking sorrel with my Mum, Dad and Sisters.
When my husband Roger died in July 2009 I was lost – with little to do - as I had looked after him, as his main carer, for 7 years following his stroke.
In October 2009 I started talking to family and friends about Christmas. I had loads of invites and I said thanks but you all know that I’m still making Sorrel. One of my very dear friends said OK why don’t you make it and we will buy it from you because we love the way you make it, and I thought why not! I linked up with my friend, Ellena and Aunty’s Sorrel and Ginseng was born.
